Children’s Foot Pain FAQs

If your child is experiencing persistent pain, limping, changes in walking patterns, swelling or has difficulty bearing weight on the affected foot, it’s important to consult a podiatrist for further evaluation.

Occasional foot pain is normal for children, especially during growth spurts or after physical activity. However, frequent complaints should be evaluated by a healthcare professional sooner rather than later.

You should seek podiatry advice if your child’s foot or leg pain does not improve with basic at-home care remedies, if it severely affects their daily movement, or if there are any signs of redness, swelling or deformity.

Look for shoes that have a wide toe box, provide arch support, and are made from breathable materials. Athletic shoes are our go-to for kids, especially for active children.

Foot pain can often be prevented by encouraging regular stretching, ensuring proper footwear is worn, introducing strengthening exercises, and monitoring any changes in walking patterns or discomfort after physical activities.
